So many questions. What editing software do you prefer? How do you set-up your camera in the field? How do you overlay the pictures on the video? Do you separate the audio file? What do you find is the best length for youtube?
Everyone already asked what I would have asked. I am also really interested in the casein. Not much info out there discusses casein. Looking forward to the vid, Mr. Gurney. Thanks for including us.
Hey James, when I was at the Portrait Conference, I purchased the casein paints to use as an underpainting. A few questions: 1) Do you put down the casein before you go out, or do it once you arrive where you're going to paint? and 2) What are your considerations when choosing the best casein color to use? Is it a complementary color, a main color within the scene, or something else? Thank you!
Am also interested in the casein question Sally asked.
On non painting question, how do you film when you're out in the field? Especially the POV of where it looks like a camera is filming you painting from your perspective, as if from your eye perspective? Maybe you've made a video about this already?
Hey James! Long time fan, wondering what kind of paper or canvas you use before applying the casein priming? And of course, do you apply the casein priming layer prior to painting on location? Looking forward to the video, thanks.
I'm 50-something and trying to get an art career going. How do you recommend finding a way to stay motivated and keep a regular schedule? Oh yes, and the dread impostor syndrome - I don't know what I'm doing enough, and I don't need my inner critic adding fuel to that fire. Any advice?
* Sauropolis might not be the name of the painting - it is the famous one with the dinosaurs parading through a romanesque ancient city with flower girls, onlookers etc. ****
I have your two books which hae been an invaluable resource in my own art education. I have been experimenting the last couple of years with canvas paper, canvas, panel, even oil painting on watercolor paper. I love different things about all of them. Two questions - have you ever used Century Linen Canvas and what are your thoughts on it vs sanding down economy brand canvas? Question 2 in your Imaginative realism book there is an image of your painting 'Sauropolis'. What did you paint that image on? Was it Canvas? Linen? Color and Light doesnt specify the surface bc its a double page spread. Funny enough I hung the original piece for a Spectrum Show back in 2010 when I was volunteering at the Society of Illustrators. It was so long ago I dont remember if it was canvas. I want to say it was but Im not sure...... In any event any clarification is appreciated! Im always trying to play around with surfaces. Always evolving!

What does the casein primer do for the gouache? And how do you keep the gouache paint from looking so dull?
I love this little boat painting.

Do you have any news on your future book Gouache in the Wild?
Do you have a vision early on of what you are going to put in or leave out? or do you figure that out as you go?

What are the main keys to the depth of the inside of the boat? (The orange seat(?) Looks back and down as in the picture)

What do you think of digital painting? Have you ever tried digital painting?
why didn't you include the man in the photo--ha ha
Can you learn to paint in gouache or is it better to start with oils, and try gouache after you have some foundational skills? Thank you!
